Slept like a log after an excellent meal, truly!!Usual green salad but nicely done, followed by yummy duck….mmmmm

However the sheets, polyester, were so thin I could see thru them… slept on a towel!?! Guess who just the day beforebhad pruned her luggage and sent the sheet sleeping bag and a few other essentials winging home!!!Still more could go…

was shocked when I came to this am to see it was pouring with rain…

Togged myself up in my new hobbit cape, bright red, purchased by David in UK a d posted to Madrid…well done…Also had my wet weather trou, golly wet weather is a pain…rains, stops, starts again ,  cape on, cape off etc etc…

There was a 950 uppy today so not good in rain..Made it to Deba, about 4 ks and was slithering dwn some v nasty stairs made of polished stones, taking it very gingerly and there was about 100 m worth, good city fathers…ha!

An american voice said can I help..and there was Ben, an American Filipino, he has travelled for the last ten years, made his money in IT…

Anyway. He took my arm and marched me down the stairs, they were an accident waiting to happen, he  even took my sticks so when there was a banister I could clutch it on one side and him on the other… Golly, I bought him food and water for valiant  and gallant behaviour. We sat in a cafe in Deba for iver an hour…he was v pleasant.!

we set off together for the afternoons destination,

Markina–Xemein, just trips off the tongue…first hill, remember this is the 950 day and we are starting again from zero, said Terry reckoned walking up hills with me was like being a hobbled horse, so I would not hopd it against him if he took off…he did.

I plodded along, quite pretty thru forest and always more hills, got  to a church which meant I was at 500m but had to make a decision,,,no acess to buses anywhere but to double back on myself with  fast 2.5 descent to Muricha, these Basque names….,met a woman who I had seen at the church who was very worried as I was going the wrong way, explained…well sort of in Spanglish..So wiped out my 500 m ascent very quickly…

Caught a bus to Ondarra, nice little port then another bus to aforeme ntioned Markina… then found where I was staying was still 3 ks away. Local bar owner called me a taxi, this time to Hotel Antsotegi

in Extebarria!!!!

It was once probably very trendy and good now seems to be run by amateurs, but the sheets look fine…Hair dryer did not work!!!Wonder what dinner will be like..have booked the same taxi for the am to get me outta here and back to Markina…Quite a long haul to Gernika tomorrow…

Two pikkies, yummy duck  and a snapshot of the topography…
