Coimbra has the oldest university in Portugal and it is graduation week and they have all been out larking about LOUDLY near my room, BOTH nights! Plus I have the hardest bed in the world…

It is a huge university and contributes largely to the town gnp… they wear black including a black blanket like thing. saw a group of them passed out on a roundabout yesterday when I was on my usual yellow bus tour.  Do those to get a feel for the lay out of a town and go back and visit anything of interest.

Here, the textile museum at the university and a special porcelain museum plus a thirty acre botanical garden with FIFTY species of eucalyptus would have been on my list BUT…  It was freezing bloody cold yesterday and by the time I got back to the hotel (ha) I was icy.

Snuggled down under the blanket and fell asleep for a couple of hours, woke up itching!!!!
No, could not be….bed bugs….never…

Went for a walk to stock up on my supplies, surprised to see the shops had shut at 2 pm, good unions for the $3 minimum wage workers at least or maybe not.  20% unemployment, yet the cafes are full, of men…

Anyway supermarket was open, full with two cashiers on.  Got a new cask of wine, kitkats, rice bars and blueberries, should keep me in lunches for at least a couple of days and drinkies for similar…

On the way back I called at a pharmacia, yip, bed bug bites, I showed her the black mark on other leg, size of a large nail head, yip, tick bite!!!  She was concerned about the tick bite and said any fever etc see a doctor, sold me something like solarcaine for the bed bug bites.  Have them on my leg and one ear… off the damn blanket.  Tick bite from peeing in long grass.  Can now pee with my pack on, quite a skill…

I told the hotel reception in no uncertain terms, denied it would be them but I suggested it was highly unlikely to be the posada of the night before.  He grumpily agreed to change the linen and blankets.  Probably for more infected stuff.

Makes me so mad as the dopes that organised this trip were supposed to have put me in the villa cale hotel, sort of like Novotel, but put me in a “quaint ” hotel instead.  I checked on the net, it was 15 e cheaper here, sods… Check it out, The Astoria, Coimbra.  Looks great, held together by ants old dirt and bed bugs… plus a John Cleese receptionist, new one on yesterday thank heavens.

I emailed Camino Ways, the trip organisers, email them most days moaning and told them their choice had bed bugs.
interestingly in two days time over two nights I stay in the same hotel twenty ks apart, they do not believe they could possibly have made a mistake….

The day warmed up and is supposed to be hot again today..

T would have liked the town but as for the hotel, i doubt he would have stayed longer than time to sniff the aged dust in the air….
