Time to get walking before we cease up altogether. Seems ages since we were ploughing along Pahoia Rd but it is only 8 days…
There are quite a number of walks around Southport, some really gnarly ones along the sand dunes which we decided to avoid.
David dropped us off at an area called Hillside, which has a reserve backing onto the local Woodvale airforce base, never saw any activity there…

Anyway the walking track was alongside a lovely wooded area well back from the sand dunes. Lots of males on bikes and a few couples- older, like us, walking. We walked for about an hour, heard a pheasant but never saw it and saw quite a few robins. lots of honeysuckle in blossom which made me oooh and aah and simply made Terry sneeze.
We met a woman along the way laden down with a big pack, she was getting in training for a 8 day walk along the Great Wall of China ,raising funds for Alzheimers.

We then walked back to the local railway line and caught the train to the beach near Liverpool where the 100 Anthony Gormley iron sculptures are scattered along the tide long. The sun was shining at last and there were lots of Poms at play….Temperature was only about 18c.

We walked along the embankment beside Crosby Beach, no swimming, no walking, no dogs , no whatever…apparently it is very dangerous. Nasty lunch at a nasty pub  then caught the train back to Birkdale. We managed about 10 k’s so not lost all our fitness…

Two days before we start the  Thames walk of 284 k’s….

Forgot to say we went to a great garden centre on Sunday- ajuga crispa took my eye, looked like ajuga that had been deep fried. Loads of interesting plants, much like our garden centres used to be.
